Before I post our update, let me send our thoughts and prayers to family and friends in SE Louisiana and the Texas coastal areas. Our hopes are that you are safe and have acccess to and know how to use camping cook stoves! It is windy and overcast here now as the first bands of Hurricane Ike race across our area. To our wonderful National Guardsmen (especially SSgt. Mark) and other first responders (especially Deputy Jeremy!) all our love, our unending gratitude, and prayers. Stay safe and THANK YOU all!!
Now for my confession. I did not post the whole story from Tulane as we had family members to talk to. We did wait for results from the CT scan in the waiting area at the cancer clinic. They called us back again about 1 (We had had some lunch in the hospital cafeteria, yeccch.) The scan revealed that a tumor is growing into Gary's spleen, and from what we understand is killing that organ. That is the source of the pain.
I think we all know that an increase in the cancer with chemo treatments is not good. The BMT is not to be. The doctor has sent Gary home and set us up with hospice. Hospice personnel have beeen coming by the house for the last two days. They are being quite helpful.
At this point we do not exactly know what to expect. We did not ask the doctor to give us a time estimate, because I personally think she's been making guesses all along. Cancer is truly unpredictable and every person responds differently to the treatment.
Gary has been much more comfortable since he starting taking morphene Tuesday evening. He continues to weaken and has no appetite. He has enjoyed visits from Glenn, Rodney, and church friends along with the hospice personnel, so don't hesitate to consider coming by. Vallie and Terry are coming to an LSU game Saturday and we look forward to seeing them on Sunday. While I am overwhelmed and frightened my headache that had me unable to function yesterday is gone this morning. Special thanks to Ms. Jo for bringing my prescription from Bogalusa.
Thank you for so much care and prayer that continues to provide strength. Special thanks to wonderful nurses in every medical atmosphere that we've sought and received care. We know that our God is good, and Gary's life, as well as mine and yours we hope, are in HIS hands.
Praising Him,
Robbi

You guys are in our thoughts & prayers. Uncle Dune, if he hasn't already, should definitely checkout out some of the photos of little Griffin - cute enough to put a smile on anyone's face:

Robbi and Gary, we are praying for you, and trusting the goodness of God to carry you through this valley. I know He does, and He will. I'm glad you have hospice care, and they really do a super job of helping and bringing peace and comfort. Have a blessed weekend with your family - - Love to both - Nita
Well we are finally done dealing with knuckle heads. It has been a long day and I'm still not sleeping all that good. The cot I have is making my back hurt more and more. I'm sorry that I did not get a chance to see yall to day. As they say that is life in the Army. I am glad to see that Isabella is getting time with her Meme and Dune, it is always good for her to do those things. I haven't really had a chance to think in the past few days. To tell you they're keeping me busy and on task. Always the soldier and never the civilian and that's they way I like it. On the other hand I have another good story for my kids when the get older. in all I'm doing good, no real complants about anything other than when am I going home. Well love to every on, Go Dale Go, Geux Tigers, and Who Dat. I love you both and I will be there if you need me.
i hope you guys have a good visit with mom and dad tomorrow. i wish we could be there. love you. b
Gary, this is Ray Cooper. I'm a relative to William "Bub" Franklin, Ottie's husband. It has been many, many years, but you were my first S-3 back in 4/156 Inf/ 50th AD under LTC Moore. I was the uptight 2LT fresh from OBC. I'm probably still uptight, but I have been blessed with a good career. I've deployed twice with TXARNG and I've a third deployment approaching, perhaps as a battalion commander. I'm a technician and serve as the Assistant Superintendent for one or our CSMS'. My mother, Shellye, forwarded me the link to your blog and I've taken great pleasure in observing the certainty of your relationship with God. Additionally, I too have found great enjoyment in the writings of W.E.B. Griffin over and over again. The "The Shootist" is one of my favorite movies also. Only true fans of the "The Duke" understand the underlying signficance that goes beyond that final shootout and I'll admit to shedding a tear if no one is looking. I'm also partial to the "fill your hands" scene in "True Grit" and "come see a fat old man sometime". I want to let you know that I'm praying for you, as is the rest of my family.
In Christ,
Ray Cooper

Robbi, Gary,
Sue and I are praying for you. I will come visit tomorrow if that's OK. Not sure if Mark and Aaron ran into each other, but I told Aaron to keep an eye out for him. Understood he was in St Martinville at some time. God willing, I will see you tomorrow.
God bless Ike
Hey guys,
We made it home last night. House is fine and no significant damage to the house or place. We checked on Granny and she has lots of limbs down. Scott has a couple of trees down and no electricity. Ryan and Tara are doing fine in Arlington. Brent is on way to Arkansas to play music.
Tara is back at LSU studying for her test today.
It is kind of cool up here today. Really just wanted to go outside and walk around today. Tomorrow morning the temperature should be in the 50's. I guess fall may be coming early this year.
Just wanted to wish you a happy birthday on Wednesday and I hope you have a great day. I will call you on Wednesday just like always.
Love

We are back on line!! Thanks to Mark Schwann (not att&t or wildblue)! We will try the air card for a couple of days, but seems to be doing the job. Thank you Lord for the small things.
I sprung Dixie from "Dazzle Dogs" this morning. She said it was not dazzling, but survivable. Seems no more the worse for wear.
I love you guys.
